Using points or miles to travel

I generally fly on points (and don't pay cash for my flights) but it has taken time to learn how to do this well.

Some of the Benefits:
- Flying, renting cars, staying in hotels without $$$ cost
- Flexibility with changes & cancellations at no cost (this is huge for me!)
- Perks like seat upgrades, lounge access, free breakfast, hotel credits, car upgrades and more
Note: Points cannot be used for the transportation, tour costs or hotels on our tours. Several of our travelers are using points for flights for 2026!

YOU can use airline or credit card points to fly too! We don't require that you be on a specific flight so you can probably find a flight on credit card points that works for you and saves you money so you can travel more!

We are happy to help you learn how to do this but ask that you consider the following before you start:
-IF you are a responsible user of credit cards for everyday and larger expenses, earning points/miles you can use for "award" seats on airlines, car rentals, & free hotel nights can be a good strategy.
We do not recommend doing this if you are at risk of overspending, but you can carry a balance if that is your normal way of managing your finances.

- There are many factors to consider:
- which airline you are likely to fly and where your typical destinations are
- what your typical monthly spend that can be put on credit cards is
- what your credit rating is, how many cards you have now, and what your balances are (I don't need to know any of this to help you!)
- when you will fly & how flexible you can be
- if you have a business that can support a credit card
- and more.
- There is NO guarantee that points you earn will equate to a free flight that is exactly what you need but, if you are persistent and responsible, you will eventually earn enough points/miles to travel for free. It's great to get started!
I usually fly for FREE (I pay for taxes) using points. Our ministry is a non-profit so this helps cut my personal cost to go on these trips every year and makes it feasible for me to travel on the ministry trips and to other places often.
- IF you have 6 months or more before you need to book your flight and you want to try this strategy, we are happy to refer you to credit cards that will give you the most benefit and be the most flexible (in our opinion). The best one to start with is the Chase Sapphire Preferred card or American Express. Use these links for the best return on your effort. We both earn points from these referred links. If you have a business, we can send you different links.
